The 'Streets for Living' Project Team has held 19 Public Information Events throughout 2006, 2007 and into 2008. These events have been attended by an average exceeding 40 local residents and other interested people. Project designs were influenced significantly by the often robust discussions at these meetings.
The major civil engineering works were completed on Friday 21st December 2007, four weeks ahead of schedule, despite the appalling weather during November and December. A major step forward in the battle to address local 'fear of crime' was the installation and switching on of the lights in the alleyways between Ponting Street and Gladstone Street and between Salisbury Street and Graham Street.
Work to complete the landscaping in each of the four streets continues during the Spring of 2008.
No more Public Information Events will be held. A major celebration event to mark the completion of the project was held across the neighbourhood and in the main hall of the Broadgreen Community Hall on Saturday 29th March 2008. Music and marching provided the backdrop to this free event to which everyone was invited and more than 100 children and adults attended. |
